Adirondack Chair Plans

Adirondack outdoor furniture can be hugely expensive at your local retailers, as much as $200 per chair! Because they are made from cedar usually, you can understand why. The good news is that they are not too difficult to build yourself if you have the right plans. I build many woodworking projects and Adirondack furniture is fairly easy from a project standpoint.

The most common tools needed to build this furniture is a router, table and jig saw, drill, and screwdrivers. Most people own or have access to these tools so this should not hold you back. If you don’t have access you can buy them and begin other great projects when you are done. The one thing you must have is a great set of plans to guide you.

Yes you can find free plans online, but this can be an exercise in futility if you get stuck. Many times you will need to get additional help. Most of the plans for outdoor furniture and other woodworking projects will have a place for you to get answers to common questions. This can really make or break a project. Once you have purchased the materials you are in it for the long haul so keep this in mind.

Picnic Table Plans

If you are like me there’s a good chance that you have spent too much money and spent too much time fiddling with woodworking projects and getting mediocre results. Measure twice and cut once took on a whole new meaning.

This takes me back to my very first attempt at carpentry many years ago. I wanted to build a picnic table set for my mother’s backyard. I didn’t even have a picnic table plan set, just a picture from the local hardware store.

It looked so simple and straight forward. I bought some wood, screws and nails and started laying out my masterpiece. I was about four hours in when I realized my first road block.

I needed a miter box to make the cross support legs for the picnic table support. It seemed easy, but I went through a lot of trial and error before I had them correct. That was the day I discovered angles are no fun!

In the end I spent almost as much money building the table and benches as it would have been to buy them. Two and a half weekends too! I realize all these years later that great picnic table plans would have really helped. I also should have treated the wood before starting the building process. It’s hard to get in the nooks and crannies!

Hopefully you will start with the end in mind before making my mistakes. Your success begins and ends with planning.
